The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has announced that N16.6 billion has been allocated in the 2025 budget for the rehabilitation and operational expenses of key health institutions, including the School of Midwifery and Nursing Amachara and the School of Midwifery and Nursing Aba. He emphasized the mantra that “health is wealth.”
During a media chat titled “Alex Otti Speaks to Abians” on Thursday, Governor Otti expressed gratitude to the people of Abia for their support of his administration. He reiterated his commitment to working in the best interests of the majority of Abians and ensuring all healthcare centres in the state are functional.
The governor highlighted the positive impact his administration aims to have in the health sector, especially with the launch of Project Ekwueme, which focuses on the rehabilitation and retrofitting of over 200 primary healthcare centres. He set a goal to complete this project within 100 days and announced that five of the health centres in Abia Central are already ready for commissioning.

Otti mentioned that over N10 billion is currently available in the Ministry of Health’s account. He assured that the tertiary health institutions are operational again, accreditation has been restored, and regulatory authorities have increased the number of student admissions. He expressed his determination to complete these initiatives by the end of the year.
Additionally, the governor stated that his administration has succeeded in making 99% of Abians happy and will continue to disregard the few individuals who engage in blackmail against the government.
He concluded by noting that his administration is in the final stages of awarding contracts for the retrofitting of 22 secondary health centres.
