Wabara Blames PDP Brawl on Insecurity, Changes BoT Meeting’s Location

Adolphus Wabara, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced that future meetings will take place outside the party secretariat due to an altercation that occurred on January 29, 2025.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday during a BoT meeting at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, Wabara attributed the recent fight which happened at the party’s secretariat to inadequate security. He stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of BoT members and the integrity of their discussions, stating that meetings will continue to be held in alternate locations until the security issues are resolved. Wabara called on the PDP leadership to take prompt action to improve security, ensuring that the party secretariat is a safe space for activities.

Additionally, Wabara condemned the ongoing crisis within the party, linking it to the national leadership involving the position of the national secretary.

In the meantime, the BoT has recognized Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the legitimate national secretary of the party, following recommendations from the Taminu Turaki-led committee that was established to examine the legal dispute between Samuel Anyanwu and Mr. Udeh-Okoye, both of whom are claiming the position.

It is worth noting that a Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, both located in Enugu, ruled on December 20, 2024, and January 14, respectively, to remove Mr Anyanwu from office and to affirm Mr Udeh-Okoye as the PDP national secretary.

However, Mr. Anyanwu later obtained a stay of execution order from the Court of Appeal in Abuja concerning the earlier judgment made by the Enugu division of the appellate court, under appeal number CA/E/24/2024.
