A terrifying scene unfolded at a mortuary in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State on Monday when a family discovered that one testicle was missing from their deceased relative’s body. The unsettling discovery led to a violent confrontation, with three mortuary attendants nearly lynched by a furious mob.
The incident occurred when a family arrived at Sympathy Mortuary, situated between Afoukwu and Abayi Okoroato village along the Aba-Ikot Ekpene highway, to collect the body of their loved one for burial. Upon inspecting the corpse, they were shocked to find that one of the testicles was missing. This sparked immediate outrage, and the family, along with a group of youths, launched an attack on the mortuary.

Eyewitnesses reported that the mob quickly turned violent, destroying property and damaging parts of the mortuary. In the midst of the chaos, the attendants tried to flee but were caught by the crowd. Fearing for their lives, the workers were on the verge of being lynched when police from the Eastern Ngwa Division intervened and arrested several individuals involved.
The act of mutilating a body is considered deeply offensive in Igbo culture, and the incident sent shockwaves through the local community. In the wake of the discovery, other families with deceased relatives at the mortuary rushed to retrieve the bodies of their loved ones, fearing further tampering. Authorities have launched an investigation into the disturbing event.
