The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has reopened the Bridgehead Drug Market in Onitsha following over one month of closure over the sale of expired drugs and medication in the market.

According to the Director General of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, on Wednesday, 2nd April 2025, shop owners in Ogbo Ogwu and three adjoining markets were required to complete documentation and clearance procedures before their shops could be unsealed.
A dedicated NAFDAC desk was placed in the market to facilitate this process.

Shop owners were also directed through their Union to sign an undertaking and a fine for past violations of distribution regulations.
It warned that only shops that meet this criteria will be opened.
Recall that the shops in Onitsha Headbridge were closed on February 10 to address concerns about public health and national security.
