Sowore Slams DSS Over Alleged Arrest of OAU Students Protesting Wike’s Visit
Revolution Now activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly arresting two students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Joshua Temitope Oladepo, and Kelechi Ejike, who protested against the visit of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.

In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Sowore accused the DSS of acting unlawfully and in collusion with university security to suppress peaceful student dissent.
“The lawless DSS, acting in conjunction with some university security, reportedly harassed and arrested these courageous students who firmly resisted the presence of Tinubu’s loquacious FCT Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, GSSRS, on their campus,” Sowore wrote. “Wike should have known that OAU, Ile-Ife is no place for dictators, tyrants, and corrupt government officials. The DSS must release them immediately. #RevolutionNow.”

In the viral videos, the students were seen holding placards and chanting: “Minister Wike, we demand you compensate the people whose houses you demolished.”
The demonstration briefly interrupted the lecture, where Wike, a former Rivers State governor, delivered a keynote address at the university’s 2025 lecture held at the Oduduwa Hall, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the DSS or the university administration regarding the alleged arrests or the reasons behind the crackdown.
Student groups and civil society organizations have begun calling for the immediate release of the students.
