The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized counterfeit malaria drugs worth over ₦1.2 billion during a high-profile raid on a warehouse in the Ilasa-Oshodi area of Lagos State.

According to a statement from NAFDAC, a total of 277 cartons of fake and unregistered Malamal Forte tablets were intercepted. The counterfeit drugs, imported illegally from Shanxi Tianyuan Pharmaceuticals Group in China, were concealed in cartons falsely labelled as Diclofenac Potassium 50mg and deceptively declared as spare parts at the port.

NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, condemned the criminal act and reiterated the agency’s unwavering commitment to protecting public health. She noted that the agency’s operations are backed by strong support from the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Health.

“This seizure is yet another milestone in our nationwide efforts to rid Nigeria of counterfeit and substandard medicines. We remain resolute in ensuring only safe, effective, and high-quality medicines are made available to Nigerians,” Adeyeye stated.

Investigations into the source and distribution network of the seized consignment are ongoing.
