Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu Bags 2025 Legislator of the Year Award
Benjamin Kalu representing Bende Federal Constituency has been named Legislator of the Year 2025 by Leadership Newspapers, describing the honour as a renewed call to service and accountability in governance.

Receiving the award on Thursday, Kalu said the recognition was more than a personal achievement, emphasising its broader significance to democratic representation.
“Awards are not mere accolades; they are catalysts that reinforce our commitment to the mandate of the people we represent,” he stated.
Kalu said he accepted the award “with great honour and humility,” commending Leadership Newspapers for what he described as its longstanding dedication to truth and accountability.
“Today, I received with great honour and humility the Legislator of the Year Award 2025, presented by Leadership Newspapers, an institution whose commitment to truth and accountability has remained strong for decades,” he said.
Highlighting his legislative record, Kalu noted that his work in Parliament has been deliberate and impact-driven, revealing that he has sponsored over 127 bills across critical sectors.
“Over the past years of extensive work and research in Parliament, we have remained deliberate and focused on delivering impactful legislative interventions to improve the lives of our people and strengthen our nation, sponsoring over 127 bills across critical sectors,” he said.
He stressed that the award belongs not only to him but to Nigerians who believe in purposeful governance.
“This recognition, however, is not mine alone. It belongs to every Nigerian who believes that legislation must serve the people and that governance must be measured not by speeches delivered, but by lives transformed,” Kalu said.
“Every bill we sponsor, every motion we move, and every amendment we propose must answer to the needs of the common Nigerian.”
The lawmaker also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what he described as “visionary leadership,” as well as to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON; the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, GCON; and his colleagues in the National Assembly for their support and synergy.
He congratulated fellow awardees, including First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, GCON, and Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State.
Kalu dedicated the award to his constituents in Bende Federal Constituency, acknowledging their role as his driving force in legislative engagements.
“To my constituents in Bende Federal Constituency, you remain the inspiration for these strides. In every legislative session, I carry your voices, hopes, and expectations into the hallowed chambers of the Green Chamber,” he said.
He also extended appreciation to his family, team, friends, and supporters who celebrated the milestone with him.
“God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Kalu concluded.
