There was a mild drama at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in the Court of Appeal today when Oba Maduabuchi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria insisted on representing the Labour Party.
Reports say the Maduabuchi, SAN, stood up to introduce himself after the counsels for Peter Obi and Labour Party introduced themselves, and Mrs. May Ngwu appeared for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and Sanussi Samaila, SAN, the Head of Legal Services for the All Progressive Congress appeared for APC but was shut down by the lead Justice.
Shutting him down, Justice Haruna Tsammani-led’s five-member panel made it clear that petitioners cannot have a different legal representation.
“As a learned silk, you should know better that there cannot be two counsels appearing for a petitioner”.
Subsequently, Maduabuchi SAN walked out of the courtroom with the faction leader of the Labour Party Lamidi Apapa.
