Imo State government has set up a “Public Health Alert Surveillance Team”, to be on guard and make sure the Anthrax disease currently ravaging some states in the country does not rear its ugly head in Imo and if it does, for the state quickly responds to such emergency.
This was part of the fallouts of the State Executive Council meeting, Wednesday, as communicated to Government House correspondents by
Chief Political Adviser to the Governor Barr. Enyinnaya Onuegbu in the absence of the state Commissioner for information, who is away from the state on official assignment.
He pointed out that the disease known as Anthrax is as dangerous as COVID-19.
Another resolution of the State Executive Council, as communicated to Government House correspondents by the Chief Political Adviser to Governor Barr. Enyinnaya Onuegbu included the adoption of a circular from the Ministry of; Budget, Planning, and Statistics to be issued to various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, to bring proposals for the 2024 budget of Imo State, to facilitate the early passage of the budget and maintain budget transparency for which the state has been renowned.
Onuegbu said the Exco noted that the government has completed the renovation of the country home of the first civilian governor of the state, Dee Sam Mbakwe.
He said the state government has completely rehabilitated three General Hospitals in Imo State, Oguta (Oguta LGA), Ohaji (Ohaji/ Egbema LGA), and a brand new one in Omuma (Oru East LGA). He said the hospitals have been fully equipped with modern and state-of-the-art medical equipment and will be commissioned in a few days.
“The Commissioner of Health also informed us that Imo State College of Health at Amaigbo has now been fully accredited for additional programs”.
He said the Exco passed a resolution, commending the governor for the leadership roles he has been playing in Nigeria which has led to peaceful co-existence between Igbos and their hosts everywhere in Nigeria, particularly in Lagos and for hosting a meeting at Imo House in Abuja, for the leadership of; Ohanaeze Ndigbo, leadership of the National Assembly from the South East, South East governors and other stakeholders which is geared towards having a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over some pressing issues affecting the Igbos in the country.
According to him, the governor was also commended for stepping into resolving the issue in their political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the issue of leadership in the National Assembly.
“We also heard from the Commissioner of Environment, which led to a motion that the state government should embark on remedial work on some very dangerous erosion sites in the state, including that of Umuchima, Ideato South, Ugiri Nna in Isiala Mbano and other areas in Ideato South.
