The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Chief Samuel Ogbuku PhD., has stated that the commission is transiting to transformation and so committed to ensuring that the people of the region will not be spectators to development but a part of development.
He stated this at the commissioning of Emergency Construction of Obehie-Oke-ikpe Road, Ukwa West LGA on Saturday 18th May 2024 disclosing that it is a pleasure to see people troop out to celebrate a project and not a political rally.
While disclosing that the Commission was tasked with the responsibility of completing all abandoned projects in the region in line with the Renewed Hope of President Bola Tinubu said;⁸
“As part of the task given to us by President Bola Tinubu that all abandoned projects should be completed, we took up the task and actualized it. It’s not easy picking up an abandoned project, especially in the face of inflation that’s why we thank the contractor who stood on negotiated old terms and actualized the dream of this road. We have resolved to use him in other local projects as he is trustworthy.
“We know that this project is a regional project linking Abia and Akwa Ibom State. What we are commissioning is the first phase and we will kick off the second phase which will lead into Akwa Ibom State. We are also grateful to Governor Dr Alex Otti for the assurance and security provided when we went back to the site.
“Let us take responsibility for the projects in our area and protect it. Ours is to provide and yours is to protect. We assure you that NDDC is transitioning to transformation. Without peace, there will be no development. NDDC is going to do better.”
Speaking, the Executive Director Project Sir Victor Etim Antai has stated that the travel time between Abia and Akwa Ibom State will be reduced with the actualization of the second phase of the Obehie-Oke-ikpe Road, Ukwa West LGA, Abia State.
