The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded Nigeria three points and three goals for the abandoned match against Libya. It also fined Libya $50,000 which is to be paid within 60 days.
Recall that the Super Eagles of Nigeria jettisoned their match with Libya on Tuesday 15th October 2024 following the intentional abandonment by Libya Football Federation at the Labraq Airport on Sunday 13th October.
According to Libya’s Al-Ahrar Channel, the CAF had a remote hearing via Zoom with representatives of both Libya and Nigeria Football Federation inquiring about the Plane’s diversion from Benina Airport to Labraq Airport.
The Libyan Football Federation explained that there was a technical issue related to air navigation, involving Secretary General Nasser Al-Suwaie, Assistant Secretary-General Mohamed Qrimida, and a Tunisian lawyer.
The Nigerian Federation called upon the Tunisian captain of the plane to provide firsthand details about the incident.
The LFF, meanwhile promised to appeal the ruling if unfavourable.
