Police Restrict Vigilante, Amotekun from Participating in Ondo Gubernatorial Election
Ahead of the Ondo State Gubernatorial election on November 16, 2024, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, has restricted all state-backed security outfits like vigilante group Amotekun from participating in the election.
Ahead of the Ondo State Gubernatorial election on November 16, 2024, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, has restricted all state-backed security outfits like vigilante group Amotekun from participating in the election.
In a statement made available by newsmen, he argued that elections are solely the responsibility of the Nigeria Police and other Federal security apparatus.
The IG stated that thorough plans are in place, including personnel, advanced equipment, and aerial and water patrols, to ensure a secure and peaceful election.

He also warned that any individuals or groups planning violence will face the full force of the law.
Meanwhile, the Traditional rulers in Akoko South-West local government area have pledged to rally vote for Governor Lucky Aiyedetiwa who took over after the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
However, a group identified as Ondo Patriots, have announced that they have commenced mobilisation in support of the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Otunba Benson Akingboye despite holding the mantle of leadership in the State.
17 political parties are set to contest in the upcoming election.
