Anambra Police Release Pregnant Woman Detained Over Husband’s Debt
The Anambra State Police have released a pregnant woman identified as Mrs Chidinma, who was previously arrested and detained in a security office in Okija due to a debt owed by her husband.
The Anambra State Police have released a pregnant woman identified as Mrs Chidinma, who was previously arrested and detained in a security office in Okija due to a debt owed by her husband.

The release followed a call from human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who raised concerns about the illegal detention of the woman on social media. In his post, he stated, “Pregnant woman Mrs Chidinma is being detained by security guards in Okija in connection with her husband’s unpaid debt.”
The security guards claimed that Chidinma’s husband owed an undisclosed amount of money. They had detained her for the past two days, indicating that she would not be released until her husband was arrested. The head of security in Okija, identified as Ikenga, asserted that he had received authority from His Excellency Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to detain her.

Gwamnishu urged the public to share his message and tag the governor and the Anambra State Police Command for a swift intervention.
In response, Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga condemned the illegal arrests made by some members of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG). He explained that the case involved the theft of an undisclosed amount of money and indicated that an investigation had been ordered.
“The Commissioner of Police disapproves of such acts of indiscriminate detention and inhumane treatment of suspects by certain AVG members,” he stated.
He assured the public that measures would be taken to address the root causes of these incidents and prevent future occurrences. Furthermore, he initiated actions with relevant authorities to curtail the excesses of unprofessional AVG members in the state.
