FG Again, Responds to Skewed Federal Appointment, Favouring Region Over Another

Amid growing concerns and speculations surrounding the fairness of recent federal appointments, the Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to upholding the principles of equity, inclusiveness, and national unity in all its decision-making processes.

Responding to recent insinuations, particularly from social media platforms suggesting an imbalance in the composition of appointments across the country, Segun Imohiosen, the Director of information and Public Relations from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), categorically dismissed such claims as unfounded and misleading.

According to the OSGF, all appointments under the current administration are being carried out in full compliance with the federal character principle, as clearly outlined in Section 14 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as Altered).

The statement further stressed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, remains a firm believer in the unity and progress of Nigeria, and consistently prioritizes justice, fairness, and regional representation in his administration’s appointments and governance structure.

“This Administration is committed to giving every region and demographic of the country a fair voice in the running of government institutions and agencies,” the statement noted, while urging the public to disregard baseless allegations and to seek verified information from official government channels.

The OSGF cautioned against individuals or groups spreading divisive narratives, describing them as detractors attempting to sow seeds of disunity. Nigerians are advised to remain focused on the shared goal of building a united, prosperous, and equitable nation, in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration.

It encouraged the public to contact the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for any clarifications regarding federal appointments.

Recall that Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) criticized President Bola Tinubu for what he described as skewed federal appointments favouring a particular ethnic group, in breach of the Federal Character principle.

Speaking on Arise News, Ndume stressed that while professional roles require specific qualifications, political appointments must reflect national diversity, as stipulated in Section 14(3) of the Constitution.

“Even as someone close to the President, I must speak the truth. These imbalances, if unchecked, could backfire,” he warned.
