The Anambra State Joint Security Task Force comprising the Police, Military, and operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Service has dismantled a notorious criminal camp in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area.

The operation, which took place on Friday, May 24, resulted in the destruction of a local bomb-making facility and the recovery and demobilization of several improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

According to the Anambra State Police Command Spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the camp had served as a fortified base for a secessionist group believed to be behind a wave of violence in the region. The hideout had reportedly remained impenetrable for over two years.

During the raid, one of the IEDs buried around the camp perimeter exploded, causing significant damage to a section of the access road.

Authorities said the explosive had been strategically placed to deter entry by security forces. Remarkably, no casualties were recorded in the operation.

The joint forces are maintaining their presence in the area to prevent any resurgence of criminal activity.
