A disturbing allegation has emerged from Clifford University, Ihie, Isialangwa, Abia State as a 17-year-old female law student has accused the university’s faculty officer, Mr Obioma Nwokoma, of sexual harassment and intimidation.

According to a statement by the Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation, Abia State Chapter, the accused, Mr Nwokoma (70), who hails from Ntigha in Isialangwa, allegedly threatened the young student after she resisted his advances.

The victim, who recently completed her first-year examinations, claims she has not received her results despite completing both semesters, raising suspicions that her academic progress may be jeopardised in retaliation.

The organisation, led by human rights advocate Ochiegbu Marvelous EO, formally submitted petitions to the Vice Chancellor of Clifford University, with copies sent to the Registrar, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Head of the Faculty of Law, and the Divisional Police Officer of Okpuala Ngwa Police Division.

Mr. Nwokoma, reportedly known for similar misconduct towards underage students, is said to have issued threats to the victim for denying him access. Behind Bars Foundation is demanding his immediate suspension pending a thorough investigation.

“We call on the leadership of Clifford University, as well as Abia State authorities, including His Excellency Dr. Alex C. Otti, to intervene and ensure the safety of this student and others who may be at risk,” said Ochiegbu Marvelous.

In addition to a video and a letter of apology allegedly written by Mr. Nwokoma where he reportedly blames his actions on “the handwork of the devil” the human rights group is urging the public to share the story and demand justice for the victim.

“Thank you to the DPO of Isialangwa Police Division and to all who stand for justice. This case cannot be swept under the carpet. Who knows the next victim?” the statement concluded.

The university and relevant authorities are yet to issue an official response.
