FG Debunks Fake Viral Video on ‘Revolutionary Diabetes Drug’
The Federal Government has strongly refuted claims made in a viral video circulating on social media, which falsely alleges the launch of a “revolutionary diabetes drug” to be distributed free of charge to Nigerians.
In an official statement released by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and signed by Alaba Balogun, Head of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry, authorities described the video as “false, misleading, and maliciously manipulated.”
The video reportedly features altered footage from a Channels TV broadcast and digitally doctored clips of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate.
“The claims in the video do not originate from the Ministry and do not reflect any official position, announcement, or programme of the Federal Government,” the statement clarified.
The Ministry emphasised that:
No such drug has been announced or approved for free national distribution.
The Coordinating Minister has never made the statements attributed to him in the video.
The public should disregard the video and refrain from sharing personal information in response to online posts offering medical products.
Diabetes care is part of the Ministry’s non-communicable diseases programme, handled through accredited health facilities and medical professionals.
Authorities launched a full investigation in collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to trace the origin of the fake video and take appropriate legal action.
The Ministry urged citizens to rely only on official sources such as its website, verified social media platforms, and accredited healthcare providers for accurate health information.
“The Federal Government remains committed to providing genuine, evidence-based healthcare solutions for all Nigerians,” the Ministry reiterated.
