NAFDAC Debunks Claims of Amoxicillin Ban
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismissed as false a viral video circulating on social media which claims the Agency has secretly banned the use of Amoxicillin in Nigeria.

In a public notice issued on the matter, NAFDAC clarified that Amoxicillin has not been banned in the country, stressing that the information being shared online is misleading and untrue.
According to the Agency, while it routinely issues targeted safety alerts, warnings, or recalls on specific substandard, counterfeit, or affected batches of medicines as part of its regulatory responsibilities, there is no blanket ban on the antibiotic.
NAFDAC urged members of the public, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to disregard the misinformation and avoid spreading unverified claims that could cause unnecessary panic or disrupt healthcare delivery.
The Agency further advised Nigerians to rely solely on official statements and updates published through NAFDAC’s verified communication channels for accurate and trustworthy information regarding medicines and public health.
