Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement Holds Flag-off Meeting in Abia, Unveils Grassroots Mobilisation Strategy

The Obi–Kwankwaso(OK) Movement Abia State Chapter, on Monday formally commenced its activities in the State with a flag-off meeting in Umuahia, where members reaffirmed their commitment to building a strong grassroots movement focused on civic engagement, voter education and public enlightenment ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The meeting brought together members of the State Executive Committee, Local Government Coordinators, Secretaries, Youth Leaders and Women Leaders representing all the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State.

Addressing participants, the Abia State Coordinator of the Movement, Comrade Zulu, disclosed that the chapter had commenced extensive grassroots mobilisation across the State and has put in place solid structures to ensure effective voter enlightenment and civic engagement.

According to Comrade Zulu, the State Coordinator, beginning from the latter part of August 2026, members of the Movement across all polling units in Abia State would embark on sustained public enlightenment programmes designed to promote civic participation, political awareness and responsible democratic engagement through January 2027.

He stated that the Movement had established functional structures across the State and was working to strengthen its presence in all the 17 Local Government Areas, 184 Wards and Polling Units through lawful grassroots organisation, volunteer development and continuous political education.

Participants at the meeting acknowledged Mr. Peter Obi and Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as distinguished Nigerian statesmen whose records in public service have earned them reputations for integrity, prudent management of public resources and commitment to people-centred development. They noted that both leaders are widely recognised for promoting accountability, infrastructure development, education, economic empowerment and good governance during their various public assignments, adding that their emphasis on transparency, discipline and inclusive development continues to generate significant public interest across the country.

The meeting also reviewed strategies for strengthening the Movement’s organisational structures, promoting voter education, encouraging peaceful democratic participation and expanding membership across Abia State in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and other applicable laws.

Also in attendance were the Deputy State Coordinator, Hon. Alison Ukabuiro, the State Secretary, Dr Obinna Okeugo, and the State Youth Leader, Obioma Onwuka, who reaffirmed the commitment of the State leadership to building a disciplined, peaceful and issue-driven grassroots movement dedicated to promoting civic responsibility and democratic participation.

The meeting concluded with a call on members to continue expanding the Movement’s structures across the State, maintain peaceful conduct in all activities, uphold the rule of law, and encourage citizens to participate responsibly in Nigeria’s democratic process.
