Sowore Leads ‘Tinubu Must Go’ Protest in Abuja, Demands ₦500,000 Minimum Wage

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress AAC and activist Omoyele Sowore, on Wednesday led a protest in Abuja under the banner of the #Revolution Festival of the Oppressed, where protesters demanded the resignation of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and called for sweeping political and economic reforms.

During the protest, protesters repeatedly chanted “Tinubu Must Go” as they marched through parts of the Federal Capital Territory, despite a heavy security presence.

Addressing supporters, Sowore declared that Nigerian workers should earn a minimum wage of ₦500,000 per month, insisting that no force could stop what he described as a growing revolutionary movement.

“We demand that Nigerian workers must be paid ₦500,000 per month as their minimum wage. Nothing can stop this revolution, not all these zombies behind us. Nothing can stop us. All these barbed wires cannot stop us. Even the police and army will join us,” he said.

Sowore also accused security agencies of attempting to prevent protesters from reaching the Presidential Villa.

According to him, security forces erected barricades to stop the procession from advancing toward Aso Rock, where he alleged President Tinubu remained “hidden away.”

“At the appointed hour, no amount of barricades can stop a determined movement. The revolutionary movement will continue to move and grow until those responsible for Nigeria’s suffering are made to answer for their crimes,” he said.

The activist further led protesters in chants calling for the removal of President Tinubu, the ruling APC, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Sowore also alleged that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) mobilised pro-Tinubu supporters to confront the protesters near the Federal High Court in Abuja during the annual #RevolutionNOW procession.

“The lawless DSS mobilised paid pro-Tinubu protesters to confront us at the Federal High Court during our annual #RevolutionNOW procession. They were no match for the determination and resolve of citizens standing for justice, accountability, and genuine democratic change,” he alleged.
