NAFDAC Busts Illegal Alcohol Syndicates, Seizes ₦350 Million Worth of Fake Products
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismantled two illegal alcohol production syndicates operating in Lagos State, seizing counterfeit and adulterated beverages valued at approximately ₦350 million.

According to the agency, the operation followed credible intelligence that led enforcement officers to raid sites at Zamfara Plaza within the Trade Fair Complex and parts of Lagos Island.
During the raid at the Trade Fair Complex, officials uncovered makeshift production facilities where fake alcoholic drinks were being manufactured and packaged for distribution.
The site reportedly contained plastic mixing tanks, improvised filtration systems, empty branded bottles, corks, and packaging materials, all of which were used in the large-scale production of counterfeit beverages. Authorities recovered more than 1,800 cartons of fake alcohol products from the location.
In a related operation on Lagos Island, NAFDAC operatives arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the illegal production and distribution network. The individual was reportedly using a retail outlet as a front for selling the adulterated drinks.
All seized items have been taken into custody for further investigation and regulatory action, while the suspect remains under investigation.
NAFDAC reiterated its warning to the public about the dangers of consuming adulterated alcoholic beverages, noting that such products can cause severe health complications, including poisoning, organ failure, and even death.
The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying surveillance and enforcement efforts to eliminate unsafe and counterfeit products from the market.
