Umahi Dismisses Claims APC Fears Peter Obi, Describes His Politics as ‘AI Politics’
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has dismissed suggestions that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are afraid of the National Democratic Congress NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, insisting that the narrative is unfounded.

Speaking during a television interview with Arise News on Tuesday, Umahi described the political momentum around Obi as “AI politics,” claiming it was based more on perception than substance.
“Even I cannot be scared of Peter Obi, not to talk about President Bola Tinubu or our party, the APC. What is displayed around Peter Obi is AI politics. It is putting something on nothing. Nobody is scared of Peter Obi,” the minister said.
Reacting to reports that Obi had called on President Tinubu to resign over the country’s challenges, Umahi questioned Obi’s own record as governor of Anambra State.
He alleged that Obi failed to deliver critical infrastructure during his administration, including roads, industries, an airport, and a seaport, while also accusing him of failing to pay contractors. Umahi further referenced allegations surrounding educational performance in the state during Obi’s tenure and claimed that his successor, Willie Obiano, addressed outstanding financial obligations left by the previous administration.
The minister also criticised Obi’s leadership style, alleging that he frequently resorts to legal action against critics.
“You disagree with him, then he takes you to court. How many times have you been abusing President Bola Tinubu? How many has he taken to court?” Umahi asked.
He further accused some members of the Obidient Movement of intolerance toward opposing views, alleging that critics of Obi are often subjected to insults and threats.
Citing the outcome of a recent senatorial by-election in the South-East, Umahi argued that the election demonstrated that Obi’s political influence was waning in the region.
He maintained that the APC remains confident ahead of future elections and insisted that Obi does not pose a political threat to President Tinubu.
Umahi also challenged members of the Obidient Movement to a public debate on infrastructure and the Tinubu administration’s reforms, saying he was prepared to defend the government’s performance.
The minister reiterated that neither President Tinubu nor the APC considers Peter Obi a political threat, expressing confidence in the administration’s record and electoral prospects.
