‘APC Driving Nigeria to Dictatorship’ – Atiku Urges Merger with Opposition Parties

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the just concluded election, has urged opposition parties to unite and save the democracy of the country.

Speaking on Tuesday after a meeting with the National Executive Committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council Nigeria, IPAC, he expressed concern over the blatant abuse of democracy by the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in the country.

He expressed concern that the country might be turned into an authoritarian rule through a one-party system as has been demonstrated by the different actions of the present administration.

“Today, during a meeting with the National Executive Committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council Nigeria (IPAC), I emphasized the importance of protecting our democracy. I expressed concern over the APC’s actions, leading Nigeria towards a one-party dictatorship. I urged IPAC, led by Yabagi Sani, to rally opposition parties to form a stronger front against this threat.”

The former Vice President of the country also called on the National Assembly to prioritize constitutional and electoral reforms.

“I criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for conducting poor elections, including discrepancies in voter numbers. I called for the National Assembly to prioritize constitutional and electoral reforms, in particular electronic voting reforms, to ensure transparent elections and protect our democracy. I believe democracy, despite its flaws, is the best form of government, and I am committed to working with others in providing its preservation in Nigeria. -AA”

Alhaji Atiku was the first runner-up in the just-concluded election. He challenged the victory of President Bola Tinubu but the Supreme Court affirmed the ruling of the Appeal Court and rejected new evidence of certificate forgery against the President.
