Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has asked who is in charge of the country following the absence of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima at the same time.
President Tinubu has not been seen since he left Saudi Arabia on Tuesday morning where he attended the World Economic Forum for London as stated by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale who said the special WEF meeting in Riyadh ended on Monday, April 29.
On May 5, Vice-President Kashim Shettima also departed from Abuja to Dallas, United States, for the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit even though the absence of the President continued to generate concerns among the citizens.
Reacting to the absence of the President and Vice president on X, Alhaji Abubakar made it clear that the two leaders cannot leave the country at the same time, especially during this economic crisis.
“I have been inundated by reports of the absence of the president and vice president from the country. It is unprecedented that the two leaders will be absent from the country at the same time, especially now that the nation is faced with daunting challenges. The question that readily comes to mind is who is in charge of government at this point, or is it right to assume that we are on autopilot?”
Though the presidency has kept mum about the absence of the President and the Vice president. However, an investigation by SaharaReporters revealed that the 5N-FGW (Gulfstream Aerospace) which was operated as Nigerian Air Force 1 – meaning the President was on board – left Riyadh International Airport on Tuesday, April 30 at 12:05 am (02:05 am Saudi Arabian time) and arrived at Stansted Airport, London at 06:35 am, UK time.
