Atiku Slams Tinubu Administration in Independence Day Message, Decries Hunger and Insecurity

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in a statement marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, describing the government as “inept” and “uncaring” in the face of widespread hunger and insecurity.

In a message shared on Wednesday, Abubakar lamented the dire state of the nation, where millions of citizens, despite the country’s abundant human and material resources, have been “reduced to refugees and beggars in their fatherland.”

“Every responsible government holds the welfare and security of its citizens as supreme. But what we have today is an administration that has abandoned its people,” the 2023 presidential candidate said.

“Hunger is killing Nigerians, bandits are massacring communities, yet President Tinubu and his cabinet stand by, unmoved and uncaring.”

Abubakar, who has remained a vocal critic of the current administration, urged Nigerians not to lose hope, emphasising the democratic power of the ballot.

“Oppressed and battered as our people may feel today, they will have the chance to sweep away this inept government at the next polls,” he stated. “That is the power no cabal can take away from the people.”

Reflecting on the country’s journey since independence in 1960, Abubakar said Nigeria remains “a giant moving painfully slow on the feet of clay,” blaming decades of poor leadership and wasteful governance for the stagnation. However, he expressed optimism about the future, asserting that with the right leadership, Nigeria can still “rise from the ashes of failed governance” and take its place among the world’s leading nations.

He extended Independence Day wishes to all Nigerians.

“I wish all Nigerians a happy 65th Independence Day anniversary celebration,” he concluded.
