Morris Monye has announced his resignation as the Director of Mobilisation for the Obidient Movement and Structure, citing persistent harassment from government sympathisers and state instruments targeting him and his businesses.

In his resignation statement, Monye expressed disappointment that the short-, medium-, and long-term objectives of the movement had not been achieved, adding that he could no longer be “part of optics without any real work.”

He, however, noted that he would continue to advise the movement but would no longer serve among its frontline leaders.

Monye disclosed that he had personally spent about ₦40 million on mobilisation efforts, travels across the country, donations, committee funding, and public advocacy for the movement.

He also called on the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to take up the responsibility of adequately funding the movement to ensure its sustainability and effectiveness.

Looking ahead, Monye said he might consider contesting for an elective position in the future but only if Nigeria implements meaningful electoral reforms. Without such reforms, he stated, he has no intention of running for office.
