Troops Launch Offensive Against Kidnappers, Reassure Commuters of Safety
Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have intensified operations against kidnappers and other criminal elements operating in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, assuring residents and commuters of improved security on major roads across the state.

The military action followed a swift response by troops on 29 January 2026 to gunshots heard along the Kasuwan Shanu–Jootar Road, near a Nigeria Police checkpoint in Wukari. On arrival at the scene, the soldiers discovered a Sharon bus with Lagos registration number LSR 445 XT conveying nine passengers.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Mr Abdul Amukama, a 45-year-old man from Makurdi, was found with a gunshot wound to his right hand. He was immediately evacuated to the General Hospital in Wukari, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that before the arrival of troops, two passengers were forcibly abducted by suspected kidnappers who fled into the surrounding bush.
In response, troops of the 6 Brigade immediately launched aggressive search-and-rescue operations within the area to secure the release of the abducted victims. The military said the operation remains ongoing, with sustained pressure being applied on the criminal elements.
The affected vehicle has since been recovered and is currently in the custody of security personnel.
Commenting on the development, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their prompt response and professionalism. He reassured the public of the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and urged road users to continue their lawful activities without fear.
The commander also called on residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information, noting that community cooperation remains critical to the success of ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace and security in Taraba State.
