NAUTH Nursing Students Protest ₦580,000 Tuition Hike
Students of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, staged a peaceful protest on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, over a sharp increase in their school fees and the poor condition of their hostels.

The students marched through parts of Nnewi in the early hours of Tuesday, expressing dissatisfaction with the recent hike in tuition fees from ₦90,000 to ₦580,000.
Carrying placards which read “Save our education, education not oppression” “360,000 a year and low quality food and food poisoning” “this is a federal institution not private” and chanting solidarity songs, the protesting students described the increase as outrageous and unbearable, calling on the management of the institution to urgently review the decision.

They also decried the poor state of their hostels and living conditions, alleging that despite the significant increase in fees, basic facilities and accommodation provided for students remain inadequate.
According to some of the protesters, the hike has placed a heavy financial burden on many students and their families, with fears that some may be forced to withdraw from the programme if the decision is not reversed.
The students called on the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital and relevant authorities to intervene, address their concerns, and improve hostel facilities to ensure a conducive learning environment.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of the institution had not issued an official response to the protest.
