A diner has shot and killed a waiter who was taking too long to make him a sandwich.
The customer was at a restaurant in Noisy-le-Grand on the eastern outskirts of Paris on Friday night.
He then lost his temper because ‘his sandwich wasn’t prepared quickly enough’ according to a witness.
He shot the waiter in the shoulder with a handgun and quickly fled the restaurant which only opened a few months ago.
The waiter’s colleagues called the police and tried to revive the 28-year-old but he died at the scene.
Police have confirmed a murder investigation has been opened.
With the shooter still on the run yesterday, shocked residents gathered outside the pizza and sandwich eatery.
‘He was killed for a sandwich?’ one asked incredulously.
It is sad,’ said a 29-year-old woman. ‘It’s a quiet restaurant, without any problems. It just opened a few months ago.’
But others noted high crime levels in the area, notably drug-dealing and public drunkenness.
Noisy-le-Grand is one of the surrounding suburbs or ‘banlieues’ of Paris which have been associated with high levels of unemployment and high crime rates.
