The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige has threatened to invoke ‘no work no pay rule on striking doctors.

Speaking on Friday on Channels Television programme itst’s programme Politics Today, Ngige said employers of the resident doctors have a role to play.
Ngige revealed that the unpaid salaries and unpaid allowances of striking doctors will be paid soon as has been arranged for that.
Recall that resident doctors started an indefinite strike on Thursday over unpaid salaries and allowances.
He also insisted that the government will not hesitate to invoke relevant sections of the law on striking doctors if they refused to resume work.
He said, “By Tuesday, I will invite them back (referring to National Association of Resident Doctors). If they become recalcitrant, there are things I can do,” he said.
“There are weapons in the labour laws I will invoke. There is ‘no wordplay pay’. Their employers have a role also to keep their businesses afloat, to keep patients alive. They can employ local doctors.”
“We won’t get there. If we are going to get there, we’ll use that stick,” he added.
