Abia Govt. Suspends Illegal Levies Across All-State Owned Markets
Following the earlier suspension of construction work across all Government owned markets with the exemption of Ahia-Ohuru and Ariaria market, the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief John Okiyi Kalu has further announced the suspension of all illegal levies in the various markets.

He made the pronouncement today in a meeting with chairmen of all the markets in his office.
Okiyi restated that Abia is open for investors and that his ministry is eager to partner with interested individuals. He however warned that government will not tolerate illegal market structures, urging investors to seek approval from the Ministry.
Speaking further, Okiyi stated that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has approved for palliative work to be executed along Faulks road and also the construction of Umueze road for smooth access to Ariaria and Ubani market respectively. He assured the traders in Ariaria International Market that the reconstruction of the shops will be completed as agreed.
In his speech, the Permanent Secretary Chief Sir Micheal Egwu admonished the chairmen to recognize the ministry as their foremost authority, stating that the Ministry will continue to support and provide solutions as demanded.
Earlier in his address, the chairman of all the chairmen who is equally the chairman of Goodshed market, Mr Nwanneakom George thanked the Governor for his efforts in promoting Made in Abia goods. He however pleaded for reduction in multiple taxation, levies and security of their markets.
The Directors and Heads of Department of the Ministry were part of the meeting.
