Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has stated that the decisions taken by his administration in the evolving political crisis in the state with his godfather and former Governor Nyesom Wike were not borne out of fear, but for peace to reign in the state.
He made this known while addressing the people of the State at the maiden state banquet held by his administration at Government House Port Harcourt on Monday to celebrate the new year.
According to a statement made available by Boniface Onyedi, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Sir Fubara who has been at loggerheads with the FCT Minister wished Rivers people a fruitful and prosperous 2024 also appealed to Rivers people to embrace the ongoing peace process at the instance of President Bola Amhed Tinibu, stating that his administration will not be enmeshed in any dirty political war that would hinder the promising prospects of development in the state.
“Every decision that we’ve taken is not borne out of fear but because we have the interest of our people and we have respect for elders”
“I’m appealing to every one of us to embrace the peace. We need this peace because our intention for the state is not for our interest but that of the development of the state”.
The governor disclosed that his administration was determined to live a legacy of unity and development in Rivers State, and not a legacy of political apprehension.
Some Commissioners like Prof Zacchaeus Adangor, SAN (Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice); Dr Des George-Kelly ((Works); Emeka Woke (Special Duties); Mrs Inime Aguma (Social Welfare and Rehabilitation); Isaac Kamalu (Finance); and Prof Chinedu Mmom (Education), had resigned from Fubara’s cabinet after the duo fell off. They were allegedly loyal to Wike.
Also, 27 lawmakers believed to be loyalists of Wike defected to the All Progressives Congress and initiated an impeachment process on Governor Fubara, a situation which he tried to stall by demolishing the state House of Assembly complex.
However, President Bola Tinubu intervened and urged both parties to shield their sword while directing a stop to the impeachment process.
