The Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued two abducted children and arrested two suspects linked to a suspected child-stealing syndicate in a swift operation that unfolded earlier this week.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the children aged between 3 and 5 were rescued on June 12, 2025, following a report by their mother at the Ozubulu Divisional Headquarters, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
The report indicated that one of the woman’s children had run to her shop to report that an unknown individual had taken away his two siblings en route to her shop at Nwafor Junction, Eziora, Ozubulu.

Responding promptly, police operatives swung into action and traced the suspects to Okpuno-Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area, where they arrested 19-year-old Onyedika Daniel and 25-year-old Nkechi Onuwa.
During interrogation, Onyedika reportedly confessed to abducting the children and revealed that he had already handed them over to Nkechi for the continuation of the criminal scheme. Acting on the information, operatives moved swiftly to Oba, leading to the successful rescue and reunification of the children with their family.
SP Ikenga confirmed that investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected syndicate, and the case will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigations.
“This achievement showcases the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society and tackling crimes against children,” he stated.
