Uyo Airport Secures International Status as Ibom Air Launches First Accra Flight
Governor Umo Eno has announced a major milestone in Akwa Ibom State’s aviation sector, confirming that the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo has received presidential approval for an upgrade to full international status.

According to the governor, the newly elevated airport will commence its first international operation on Saturday, May 2, 2026, with a maiden flight from Uyo to Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana. The flight will be operated by Ibom Air, the state-owned airline, with a return journey scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026.
Describing the development as historic, Eno said the move represents a significant step toward enhancing the state’s aviation capacity and strengthening its global connectivity. He added that the airport’s international status is expected to boost tourism, facilitate trade, and attract greater investment in Akwa Ibom.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the upgrade, as well as to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for his support in bringing the project to fruition.
He also acknowledged the efforts of previous administrations that contributed to the growth and development of the state’s aviation infrastructure.
