Chief Mrs. Grace Udensi Kalu has broken her silence following her arrest and detention from January 2 to January 8, 2026, by security operatives attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor of Abia State, in connection with the communal crisis in Okon-Aku Autonomous Community, Ohafia.

During the period of her detention, she was held at the Ohafia Police Station and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Umuahia, over allegations that she was involved in inciting and sponsoring the communal unrest in her community.

Speaking after her release in a statement personally signed by her, Chief Grace expressed gratitude to Nigerians from all walks of life who reached out in solidarity during what she described as a deeply challenging experience.

“I have received numerous calls and messages from family members, friends, colleagues, associates, mentors, and well-wishers. I sincerely appreciate the prayers, encouragement, and goodwill shown to me. I remain thankful and resolute,” she said.

Chief Grace Udensi stated that she has deliberately chosen to exercise restraint and allow the security agencies to conclude their investigations, assuring the public that she will fully address the matter at the appropriate time.

“For those who know me and my journey, it is clear that I stand for peace, love, justice, and community progress. I therefore urge all parties to remain calm, law-abiding, and patient, and to allow the rule of law to take its full course,” she added.

She further called on members of the community and other stakeholders to cooperate fully with investigators by providing factual and truthful information, stressing that only truth can bring lasting peace.

Chief Grace also expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti, for his insistence on due process and respect for the rule of law, as well as the Inspector General of Police for his timely intervention.
