A First Class traditional ruler, the Agwom Izere, His Royal Highness Dr. Isaac Azi Wakili has been kidnapped in Plateau State by unknown gunmen on Friday morning at his palace in the Shere District of Jos East.
It was gathered that the hoodlums stormed his palace and engaged the security personnel in a gun duel before making for the victim who had ill health.
Two security officers sustained varied degrees of injury while the gunmen whisked the traditional ruler away to an unidentified location.
The hoodlums were given chase by local hunters who got information on the kidnap but they were unable to track them.
The State Police Command Public Relations officer DSP Alfred Alabo while confirming the incident noted that a tactical team had been deployed to Izere land to rescue the victim.
“As I’m talking to you, our officers and men are combing the bush to ensure that the traditional ruler is rescued and perpetrators brought to book. We also want to appeal to members of the public to always avail us with timely information because that will help us to forestall an incident of this nature before it happens.”
