Tinubu Assures Energy Sufficiency, Congratulates NNPCL on Revitalizing Port Harcourt Refinery

President Bola Tinubu has assured the nation of his administration’s commitment to repairing Nigeria’s refineries. This effort aims to eliminate the unfortunate perception of Nigeria as a major crude oil producer that cannot refine its resources for domestic consumption.

He made this statement on Tuesday while congratulating the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on the successful revitalization of the Port Harcourt refinery, which officially began loading petroleum products on November 26, 2024.

President Tinubu also commended his predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari, for playing a pivotal role in the comprehensive rehabilitation of the country’s refineries. He expressed gratitude to the African Export-Import Bank for its confidence in financing this critical project.

In a press release by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, it was stated that, with the successful revival of the Port Harcourt refinery, President Tinubu encourages NNPC Limited to expedite the scheduled reactivation of both the second Port Harcourt refinery and the Warri and Kaduna refineries.

“These efforts will significantly enhance domestic production capacity, along with contributions from privately-owned refineries, making our country a major energy hub. The gas sector will also receive unprecedented attention from the administration,” he noted.

President Tinubu commended the leadership of NNPC Limited’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mele Kyari, whose unwavering dedication and commitment were instrumental in overcoming challenges to achieve this milestone.

In his remarks, President Tinubu highlighted the values of patience, integrity, and accountability in the rebuilding of the nation’s infrastructure. He called upon individuals, institutions, and citizens entrusted with responsibilities to maintain focus and uphold trust in their service to the nation.

In alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on shared economic prosperity for all, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to achieving energy sufficiency, enhancing energy security, and boosting Nigeria’s export capacity.
