Women in White Rally Behind Emergency Measures in Rivers State Week After Opposition Group Protested

A group of women dressed in white organized a public demonstration to show their unity and support for the recent emergency measures in Rivers State. This rally took place one week after a group allegedly loyal to suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara protested against the military rule in the state.

During their peaceful demonstration on Monday, the women expressed strong support for the leadership of Administrator Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, praising his decisive actions in response to the ongoing crisis.

In a viral video, they emphasized the importance of stability and swift intervention, urging citizens to unite behind the administration during this critical time.

It is worth noting that President Bola Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly lawmakers for six months in what some view as a violation of the rule of law in the country. He appointed Vice Admiral Ibas (Rtd) as the sole administrator amidst considerable criticism.

Despite a court order barring him from appointing sole administrators in the 23 Local Government Areas of the state, Vice Admiral Ibas went ahead to appoint and swear in the administrators, which sparked significant negative reactions.
