Security operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force have arrested no fewer than 20 individuals in connection with the hacking of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The suspects, believed to be part of a well-coordinated syndicate of over 100 members, were apprehended across several states, including Lagos, Edo, Anambra, Kano, and Delta.

Investigations revealed that the syndicate specialises in breaching the servers of major examination bodies such as JAMB and the National Examinations Council (NECO).

Sources within the security agencies disclosed that the arrested individuals confessed to sabotaging the Computer Based Test (CBT) system.

The goal, authorities say, was to compromise the credibility of JAMB and discourage the continued use of CBT platforms for WAEC and NECO examinations.

Preliminary investigations also implicated some private school proprietors who allegedly facilitated the score manipulation for candidates who paid between ₦700,000 and ₦2 million to have their results altered. These manipulations granted the candidates unfair advantages in the admission process.

Despite the breach, JAMB authorities confirmed that no evidence of wrongdoing has been found against the seven officials who supervised the CBT centres where the incidents occurred.

The security agencies have assured the public of a thorough investigation and reiterated their commitment to upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s examination systems.
