2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has accused the Federal Government of instigating and sustaining the internal crisis rocking the Labour Party. Obi made the remarks while addressing ongoing tensions within the party’s leadership.
“The problem we have in the Labour Party is instigated and sustained by the Federal Government,” Obi said, expressing frustration over what he described as an atmosphere of propaganda and deliberate misinformation.
Speaking with Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni on Monday, he addressed the recent remarks made by the party’s National Chairman, who reportedly referred to a Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti as a “dwarf” and accused him of “dwarf thinking.”
Obi questioned the rationale behind such statements, asking, “If you have a Party Chairman who called a State Governor a dwarf and dwarf thinking, what does that mean? Forget about me. Is Otti weak? Is every other person there weak? Let us be sincere with ourselves.”

Obi went on to defend his record and leadership style, highlighting his experience in governance and business. “I’ve built businesses locally and internationally and they are thriving. I’ve been Chairman of corporations and earned my respect. I have been a Governor and in no place have I shown weakness. I have been very consistent in my approach,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor emphasized that humility, patience, and tolerance should not be mistaken for weakness. “It is not easy for people to remain where I am. When we were campaigning for elections, I went to places people dared not go to,” he added.
Obi’s comments come amid lingering crisis within the Labour Party, and the factions created by the crisis.
