NNPCL Raises Alarm, Alleges Smear Campaign Targeting New Leadership
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has raised the alarm over what it describes as a coordinated smear campaign aimed at discrediting its new management and derailing the company’s ongoing transformation agenda.

In a statement released on Friday, NNPC Ltd. accused unnamed groups of deliberately spreading falsehoods and planting fabricated reports in a bid to tarnish the image of the leadership and disrupt the company’s shift towards transparency and performance.
“This group is actively spreading lies and misinformation simply to discredit NNPC Ltd.’s leadership and derail the organisation’s ongoing transformation into a corruption-free, performance-driven energy company,” the statement read.
NNPC Ltd. said the campaign appears designed to distract its leadership, mislead the public, and weaken the morale of its workforce. The company reaffirmed its commitment to aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for accountability and efficiency in the oil and gas sector.
“These tactics including scandalous and curated false reports are a direct attempt to undermine the commitment of our dedicated workforce and reform-minded Nigerians who support the transformation of NNPC Ltd.,” the company added.
The oil giant reiterated its resolve to resist all efforts to roll back the reforms currently being implemented and urged the public to disregard misleading narratives as it expects surge of defamatory contents in the days and weeks ahead.
