Kwara State Police Command has described as fake a video showing people lamenting over hardship and hunger in front of the palace of the Emir in Ilorin over the weekend.

Speaking in a statement on Sunday, the Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, said the video which is doctored is the handwork of mischief makers and urged members of the public to disregard the video.
In a response entitled, ‘RE- FAKE VIRAL VIDEO AT THE EMIR’S PALACE ILORIN’ it argued that the video does not represent the feelings and emotions of the people and was made to disrupt the peace in the State.
The attention of the Kwara State Police Command has been drawn to a video in circulation on social media platforms where people were portrayed as lamenting over hardship and poverty in front of the Emir’s Palace in Ilorin. The Kwara Police Command wishes to state that the said viral video has been studied and states as follows:

•No such gathering has taken place in any part of Ilorin he recent times, including the Emir’s Palace.
•The video in circulation is a doctored version of the true representation of a socio-cultural event in the forecourt of the Emir’s Palace some years ago. The viral video has been manipulated with another audio that does not match the countenance of the people seen in the video.
• The viral video is the handiwork of mischief makers and some subversive elements with criminal intent to disrupt the peace and harmony we enjoy in the state.
•The Kwara State Police Command urges members of the public to disregard the video and desist from aiding the peddlers of fake news by sharing unverified information content.
• The commissioner of police CP Victor Olaiya (psc+) will continue to work with other security agencies to prevent any breakdown of law and order, while ensuring that citizens continue to enjoy an atmosphere of peace and security.
