The former Governor of Imo State Ikedi Ohakim escaped death as he was attacked by gunmen at Oriagu in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the State on Monday, January 2023.
It was gathered that four policemen died in the attack.
Ohakim was with his two children when the attack happened and escaped with them but his backup vehicle was not so lucky as it was bombed in the process killing the orderlies.
A source close to the former governor disclosed to Leadership News that it took the bravery of his driver for him to escape the attack.
The source stressed, “His Excellency was the main target but his driver was smart enough to beat them because they were driving to block him.
“Disappointed that their main target had escaped, they blocked his backup vehicle and burnt it. The four policemen with him were burnt.”
Reinforcement came from Owerri, the State capital, and escorted Ohakim to his house.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Michael Abattam is yet to comment on the incident.
