The Kwara State Government has reduced the civil service working days from five to three days following the removal of the petrol subsidy by the Federal Government which caused a 200% hike in the prices of petrol in the country.
A statement by the Head of Service, Mrs Susan Modupe Oluwole as recorded by the Chief Press Secretary, Murtala Adejobi on Monday, made it clear that the reduction of the workday was only temporary palliative measures.
The statement reads, ‘The Kwara State Government has approved a temporary palliative measure to bring some ease to workers following the removal the of petrol subsidy by the Federal Government.
The State Head of Service, Mrs Susan Modupe Oluwole announced today that the State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has directed that the workdays be reduced from five days to three days per week for every worker.’
Mrs. Oluwole also warned that her office will intensify the regular monitoring of MDAs to ensure strict compliance with the Governor’s directive.
‘Mrs. Oluwole directed all Heads of Ministries, Departmentsnts, and Agencies (MDAs) in the State to immediately work out a format indicating the alternating work days for each worker under them.
The Head of Service, however, warned the workers not to abuse the magnanimity of the Governor, stressing that the regular monitoring of MDAs by her office would be intensified to ensure strict compliance.’
