The 8th Abia State House of Assembly has promised to weigh in on the issues concerning the dismissed State Civil Servants who protested at the Assembly complex on Tuesday, 3rd October 2023 stating that there is hope as Governor Alex Otti is a listening governor.
Speaking, the Chief Whip of the House, Honourable Emeka Obioma asserted that the Representatives are their servants and not their leaders while assuring that something will be done.
“Your message is very clear. We have heard you very loud and clear. Let me apologize for the inability of the Speaker to be here to address you. The plenary is ongoing but because of the importance he attached to this protest, he mandated me to come here and speak to you people.”
“The letter you have written is self-explanatory, but we don’t need the letters to know why you are here. We all know why you are here. There is Hope, our Governor is a listening Governor and the Speaker has asked me to assure you, that this message will be delivered to the Governor.”
Carrying placards that read “We have dependents, you are our representatives, please speak for us” and ” We are all Abians, Please Reinstate us, we are ready to work,” among others, the protesters pleaded with the members of the State House of Assembly to come to their aid as they have dependants and are also Abians who share in the vision of the Governor.
They revealed that they were duly employed and went through the rigorous employment process and have been faced with hardship since their disengagement on the 31st of August 2023.
Recall that civil servants who were employed from January 2023 were disengaged in a memo communicated through the Head of Service Lady Joy Maduka.
