Kwara State government has shut down the abattoir at Mandate Market in Ilorin, following rumours of poisoned cow meat and also confiscated all the suspected meats for laboratory tests and confirmation of claims.

This was made known on Sunday after the State Government led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam and her counterpart in Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs Toypsi Adebayo-Thomas visited the Mandate market.


The market which was temporarily shut down by the State Ministry of Environment till Wednesday to allow for fumigation and general cleaning of the area said the measures put in place will safeguard the public.
While commending the leadership of the market for their cooperation, it further stated that more information will be given as may become necessary as it establishes the truth of the poisoned cow meat.
