Primary School Teachers under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in Abuja, in collaboration with Area Council workers, are protesting over unpaid entitlements in the Federal Capital Territory.

The visibly angry protesters stated that they had been denied due remuneration for several months and shut down the entrance to the office of the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on Thursday.
They demanded the implementation of an N70,000 new minimum wage and noted that the intervention of the FCT Minister has not yielded any fruit as the Area Council Chairman has refused to pay the outstanding arrears and the new minimum wage.

It was gathered that the FCT administration approved N4.1 billion to pay the minimum wage but failed to implement an N30,000 wage award, 25 to 35% salary adjustment, 40% peculiar allowance, 35% CONHESS/CONMESS salary adjustment as well as non-remittance of pension deductions to PFA from the workers’ salary.
In a viral video seen by Newsleverage, six Area Council Chairmen were accused of refusing to pay their owed wages.
