Senate Unseals Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Office, Clears Path for Return

The National Assembly has reportedly unsealed the office of the Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central), granting her access to her office and the premises after months of suspension and legal tussle.

On Tuesday, this indicates the lifting of the suspension placed on the Senator following the prolonged face off between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

It was gathered that the move to unseal her office ahead of the Senate’s resumption on October 7, 2025, is seen as a preparatory step to ensure her full reintegration into Senate activities.

A source familiar with the matter revealed that the move was agreed upon during a Senate leadership meeting on Monday. At the plenary, a motion is expected to be moved likely by Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South) requiring Akpoti-Uduaghan to tender an apology. If seconded and adopted, the motion would mark the formal end of her suspension.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who previously chaired the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, was suspended for six months in March 2025 over what the Senate described as misconduct. The suspension followed a heated protest by the senator after her seat was reassigned by Senate President Akpabio during plenary on February 20.

Though her suspension technically ended in September 2025, Akpoti-Uduaghan was unable to resume her duties due to ongoing legal disputes and resistance from Senate leadership. She had earlier approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the suspension but initially received no reprieve.

However, in a landmark ruling in July, Justice Binta Nyako declared the six-month suspension “excessive and unconstitutional,” ordering her reinstatement. The judge emphasized that such a prolonged suspension deprived the people of Kogi Central of representation in the National Assembly.

While the Senate maintained that the suspension had nothing to do with alleged sexual misconduct, a narrative floated in some quarters it insisted Akpoti-Uduaghan violated provisions of the Senate Standing Orders.
