Senate Approves Tinubu’s Request to Deploy Troops to Benin Republic
The Senate has approved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request to deploy Nigerian troops to the Republic of Benin on a peace mission, in accordance with Section 5(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The upper chamber granted the approval on Tuesday following the President’s earlier communication seeking consent for the deployment, which he said was necessary to support the Benin Republic after the recent failed coup attempt.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio said the expeditious approval was crucial to ensuring peace and stability in the sub-region and preventing a potential humanitarian crisis.
He emphasised that Nigeria, as a key member of ECOWAS, has a responsibility to help safeguard democratic governance within West Africa.
