2027: No Political Party Should Field a Governorship Candidate Against Otti – Ikwechegh
The member representing Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency, Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, has charged that no political party in the State should field a governorship candidate in the 2027 election as Governor Alex Otti has done tremendously well in repositioning the State.

Speaking to journalists after his visit to Governor Otti on Wednesday to formally join the Labour Party, Hon Ikwechegh said he was guided by his conscience and his belief in transformative leadership evident in Abia which is focused on nation building.
He also used the opportunity to dismiss reports circulating online that he is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), clarifying that he is firmly a member of the Labour Party.
According to him, Nigeria operates a democratic system of government that encourages multiparty participation and constructive opposition.
“Nigeria practices a democratic system of government. We do not practice a one-party system, and that is why we believe there should always be opposition not to spread hate but to identify areas where improvement needs to be made. That is the way democracy is configured,” he said.
The federal lawmaker disclosed that he resigned from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a party he said he still loves, to join the Labour Party in solidarity with Governor Otti, whose performance he described as exceptional.
“Politics is all about nation building and nation building is what we are here to do,” Ikwechegh added.
He further revealed that a link would be made available to enable interested individuals to register with the Labour Party, which he described as “the party to beat” and one that attracts like-minded individuals committed to genuine service to the people.
